Occupational Health and Safety

Despite increasing focus on the value of integrating occupational health and safety with workforce well-being efforts, many organizations still operate these programs in silos. As a result, opportunities for cost savings, health improvement and reduced injury and absence are missed.

Workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses cost employers billions of dollars every year.  It has been estimated that employers pay almost $1 billion per week for direct workers’ compensation costs.[1]  Furthermore, risk factors in the workplace can contribute to health problems previously considered unrelated to work. For example, there are work-related risk factors for sleep disorders, cardiovascular disease, depression and obesity.

Designing policies, programs and environments that protect employee health and safety, foster low-stress working conditions and promote employee well-being can result in significant improvement to the organization’s productivity and performance.
