In India, women play an essential role in close-knit nuclear families. They are mothers and primary caregivers for their elders. To support and retain women in the workforce, India passed the Maternity Amendment Bill, 2017, which provides a progressive maternal leave policy, the third most generous globally. Furthermore, India’s significant aging population has prompted employers to develop new plan design structures to support the caregivers in their workforce. These examples are indicative of India’s family-friendly policies and robust parent package.
