The United Nations has an ambitious goal for the world: to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. While medical advances in recent decades have allowed people with HIV to live longer and healthier lives than ever before, many challenges to meeting the 2030 goal remain. In recognition of World AIDS Day, we talk with Anne Aslett of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Mike Steinberg of Chevron Corporation about how their organizations are working to advance that goal by providing access to testing, treatment, and prevention services in the communities where they’re most needed. We also discuss inequities that exist around the world, ways to reduce stigma and discrimination among vulnerable populations and the important role public-private partnerships can play in addressing HIV/AIDS.
