This inaugural survey focused on the current and future state of employer well-being programs

Key Takeaways

  • A growing number of employers see job satisfaction as a component of well-being.
  • Paid vacation/time off is offered by all employers surveyed, with a majority providing it to employees in all or most countries in which they have operations.
  • About half of employers provide paid mental health/well-being leave.

Job Satisfaction Linked to Leave and Flexibility

Employers understand that employees’ job satisfaction is tied to their overall well-being, evident by the fact that 62% of companies include this dimension in their well-being strategy. Leave and flexibility are key levers that employers are pulling to simultaneously support job satisfaction and well-being, enabling employees to take time off for illness, care for loved ones and for rest and rejuvenation. However, compared to other areas of well-being, employers find that employees aren’t highly engaged in job satisfaction initiatives, which could be evidence that employees are not as aware of these initiatives compared to physical well-being and mental health.

All employers offer paid vacation/time off, with a large majority doing so in all/most countries in which they have operations. From there, employers may layer on additional forms of paid leave to support employees through major life moments – to grieve the passing of a loved one, to welcome a new addition to their family and to serve in the military (Figure 6.2). Fifty-one percent of employers provide paid mental health/well-being leave to their employees, signaling the importance of taking time to disconnect from work and combat burnout.
