2023 Winners Represent Diverse Industry Sectors
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 26 — Fifty large companies and organizations representing an array of sectors received the prestigious Business Group on Health Best Employers: Excellence in Health & Well-being Award, for their outstanding commitment to advancing employee well-being through comprehensive and innovative benefits and initiatives.
The honors, now in their 18th year, were announced today in Washington, D.C., at the Business Group’s 2023 Annual Conference, organized around the theme “Winning Strategies: Impactful, Innovative, Inclusive.”
The 2023 winners represent banking/financial services, health care, insurance, manufacturing, professional services, technology and utilities, among others. A full list of winners is available on our Best Employers webpage.
The comprehensive award criteria assess applicants on their approach related to leadership, strategy and culture; holistic well-being, including mental health, financial security, physical health, social connectedness and job satisfaction; engagement and the employee experience; health equity; and metrics and evaluation. Companies have the option to apply based on their U.S. or global workforce populations.
“In the face of ongoing challenges, the award winners all enhance the lives of employees and their families through their innovative health and well-being programs,” said Ellen Kelsay, Business Group on Health president and CEO. “In addition, their leading-edge programs address critical issues such as health equity, Social Determinants of Health and affordability, with an eye toward better health and well-being outcomes for everyone.”
LuAnn Heinen, vice president of the Business Group, said, “The 2023 winners serve as a model for other companies and organizations looking to amplify their benefit offerings. We congratulate each and every one of the honorees for setting such high standards and for being employers of choice.”
Some of the 50 employers received additional honors for excellence in one of three categories: Mental Health, Health Equity, and Global Health & Well-being. Several companies and organizations won multiple awards. Three employers – American Express, The Nielsen Company and The Walt Disney Company – were cited for excellence in all three categories.
The 13 winners of the Excellence in Mental Health Award executed an organizational strategy to support mental health with goals and measurables outcomes and had active leadership involvement. These employers also leveraged initiatives or programs to address adolescent mental health, suicidal ideation and substance use disorders.
Ten employers won the Excellence in Health Equity Award, for their work to ensure that all employees have the chance to reach their full health potential. The awardees had incorporated diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) into their health and well-being strategies. In addition, they engaged Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and/or community leaders in health awareness and education campaigns; provided opportunities for employees to find health providers that matched their identity and culture; and assessed disparities in engagement with health and well-being offerings or health outcomes among different employee populations.
The nine employers honored with the Excellence in Global Health & Well-being Award skillfully navigated challenges as they met the diverse needs of employees in multiple countries. These employers also demonstrated a commitment to equity with a set of standard benefits offered to their global workforces.
Award applicants do not have to be members of the Business Group.
Entries are reviewed by a panel of peer employer judges. Applications for the 2024 Best Employers Awards will be accepted in fall 2023.
