While we support efforts to increase price transparency, requirements for making private-payor negotiated charges available may not be the best source of pricing data for consumers. Moreover, publicly disclosing competitively negotiated, proprietary rates may reduce competition and push prices higher – not lower – for consumers, patients, and taxpayers.
