This joint survey between the National Business Group on Health and the Silicon Valley Employers Forum looks at the perks that employers offer their employees. The survey asks employers about a wide variety of perks, ranging from financial assistance perks to those more directed at an employee's overall emotional well-being. The results of the survey also compare perks offered by technology companies against those of other large employers. Sixty-three employers responded to this survey.

Paid and Unpaid Sabbatical Programs
The purpose of this survey was to determine how employers from a range of industries structure their sabbatical programs. This survey looks specifically at the length of the sabbatical program, eligibility requirements and frequency with which employees may participate in the program. Severance Benefits
The purpose of this survey was to determine whether employers offer severance benefits to any employees when there are reductions in force or layoffs. The survey also looked at employee eligibility, payout calculations, payout timeframe and COBRA benefits. Thirty-five members of the Business Group responded to this survey, although there was variation in the number responding to each particular question.

The purpose of this survey was to learn whether other employers offer flexible or permissive leave policies to their executives or other employees. Quick Survey Findings: Executive Physical Programs
The purpose of this survey is to determine how employers manage their executive physical programs. This survey looks specifically at who within the company is eligible for the program, how frequently employees can use the program and how participation is tracked. The survey also asks specifically about what services are covered, how much the average program costs, and how employers partner with providers to conduct executive physicals. Forty-five members of the Business Group responded to this survey.

Mobile Device Policies
The purpose of this survey is to determine how employers manage their mobile device policies. The survey looks specifically at whether employers offer company-provided mobile devices, subsidize mobile device costs for employees, or allow employees to use their own mobile device for company business. The survey also looks at employee eligibility for mobile device use, and circumstances in which they may be used. Furthermore, the survey asks about mobile device policy changes within the last year and how employees' Internet needs are supported both at home and while traveling. Eighteen members of the Business Group responded to this survey.

Gym Membership Reimbursements and Discounted Gym Memberships
The purpose of this survey is to develop benchmarks around how large employers manage their physical activity reimbursement programs and discounted gym memberships. The survey looks specifically at types of eligible activities, reimbursement amounts, reimbursement frequency, and participant eligibility. The survey also looks at whether employers arrange for discounted rates at local gyms/fitness centers, how the arrangement is made, and average negotiated discount rates. Forty-two members of the Business Group responded to this survey.

Paid Leave Policies: PTO vs. Traditional Vacation and Sick Leave
The purpose of this survey is to provide large employer benchmarks for paid leave (e.g., PTO, vacation leave, and sick days). The survey looks specifically at the type of leave program (i.e., traditional leave system or PTO bank system) that large employers offer, and the amount of leave offered based on years of service. The survey also looks at how leave is accrued, and other aspects of managing leave accrual. Fifty-one members of the Business Group responded to this survey..

Agencies Finalize Excepted Benefits Regulations
The IRS, DOL, and HHS finalized regulations that amend the excepted benefits rules to: (1) eliminate the requirement that self-insured plans charge an additional participant contribution for limited-scope dental or vision benefits to qualify as excepted benefits; and (2) set standards for employee assistance programs (EAPs) to qualify as excepted benefits.

Parental Leave
The purpose of this survey was to examine employers’ current policies around parental leave for new parents (birth and adoptive parents). It focuses mainly on three areas: eligibility for parental leave; the level of income replacement; and the amount of paid leave that can be taken.
