What Your CEO Is Reading – Workplace Wellness
The New York Times reported findings from a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that assessed the effectiveness of a workplace wellness intervention. The study, a randomized trial led by Harvard Medical School, found that employees who participated in the wellness program reported noticeable increases in exercise and active management of their weight; however, the intervention failed to have any apparent impact on employee health outcomes, medical costs or health care utilization over an 18-month period. Weight Management Programs & Benefits
The purpose of this survey was to learn how employers approach weight management services for their workforce. This survey looks specifically at what employers are doing to promote weight management among employees with overweight or obesity. Additionally, the survey investigates weight management programs, pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery performed at Centers of Excellence (COEs), and metrics used to track program effectiveness. Fifty-five members of the Business Group responded to this survey, although the number may vary from question to question.

Health and Well-being Activity Reimbursement Programs
The purpose of this survey was to learn whether employers provide reimbursement for physical activity or well-being programs. This survey looks specifically at the types of programs that are eligible for reimbursement, total amount of reimbursement provided and eligibility requirements. Fifty-two members of the Business Group responded to this survey, although the number may vary from question to question.

Employer Alert: New FDA-Approved Drugs to Treat Overweight and Obese Adults
In mid-2012, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first new weight loss drugs in 13 years. The approval and availability of Belviq and Qsymia expands the range of medical options for treating overweight and obesity and requires plan sponsors to consider/reconsider if and how to cover weight loss drugs.
