In January 2017, the National Business Group on Health convened a meeting for large employers called the Employers’ Forum on Mental Health and Emotional Well-being. The San Francisco event focused on highlighting strategies that employers can use to connect their employees to high-quality mental health care and promote positive emotional well-being in the workplace.
Why are employers paying more attention to mental health and emotional well-being in 2017? The impact of mental health on productivity and costs, the opioid epidemic, younger generations taking the lead on reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues, health systems taking financial risk for the total health of their patients, and a growing number of employees who want to work for companies that value social connectedness and emotional health are all factors driving increased attention on mental health.
The summit was an employer-only event designed for human resources, benefits, EAP and well-being professionals to share their experiences and learn from each other.
