Cost CalculatorsInjury Cost CalculatorMillions of Americans suffer injuries every year. The health and economic burden of temporary and permanent injuries is substantial, and it affects employers. In 2010, nonfatal injuries cost society more than $471 billion in productivity losses and over $111 billion in medical costs. Many of these injuries occur off-the-job, but the amount of lost work is the same regardless of whether the injury occurred on the job. The Injury Cost Calculator helps employers approximate the average costs of certain types of unintentional injury. The calculator uses nonfatal cost and incidence data extrapolated from national-level data sources. Cost estimates are based on the number of employees the user enters, and are given in 2009 U.S. dollars. The results should be interpreted as the average amount of resources that could be saved through preventing one injury. Maternal and Child Health CalculatorUse the Maternal and Child Health Calculator for Employers to design your maternal and child health benefits. This tool estimates an employer's direct and indirect cost impact of adopting a set of model prevention benefits which were published by the National Business Group in Health in Investing in Maternal and Child Health: An Employer's Toolkit. Click here to download the Maternal and Child Health Calculator, developed by the National Business Group on Health and the University of Michigan, to your desktop. (This is an executable file that you must install on your computer.) Also see the corresponding issue brief for more information. RTI Obesity Cost Calculator™Try out the new and improved RTI Obesity Cost Calculator™, developed by RTI International and supported by CDC Foundation and CDC. This free, public domain tool allows employers to accurately estimate the cost of obesity in their own employee and dependent population. In addition to calculating the direct health care cost impact of obesity and some indirect costs, a new feature enables the user to model cost savings from programs or interventions to reduce overweight and obesity. To use the cost calculator, certain data inputs are required and others are optional defaults based on national data are provided whenever possible. However, employer-specific input (if the data are comprehensive and valid) will usually yield the best estimates. For technical assistance with the cost calculator or other inquiries, contact occhelp@rti.org. Please download the ZIP archive to your computer to access the Obesity Cost Calculator.
