Consumer-Driven Health Care for Children: An Employer’s Guide to Developing Child and Adolescent Benefits

The National Business Group on Health with the support of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration, and Department of Health and Human Services produced an instructive toolkit entitled Consumer-Driven Health Care for Children: An Employer’s Guide to Developing Child and Adolescent Benefits. This toolkit serves to help benefit managers understand consumer-driven health care benefits and provide useful resources for addressing child and adolescent health care in consumer-driven benefit designs.

The toolkit is made up of five sections, each addressing important issues related to consumer-driven health care for employers and employees.

Introduction
What are Consumer-Driven Health Care Plans?
Introduces the role consumer-driven health care plans play in the U.S healthcare system, defines key terms, and discusses the business case of consumer-driven plans.
How to Design Consumer-Driven Health Care Plans
Benefit managers can use information in this section to help structure health benefit programs and to communicate materials on new plans for employees.
Making Smart Decisions: Helping Employees with a Family to Maximize Health Benefits
Provides information employers need in order to educate their employees on available benefit options. This section also helps employees and their families choose and utilize a health plan that best fits their needs.
Using Incentives to Encourage Employer Participation
Describes the types of services employers can provide to improve child and adolescent health, services and programs that should be offered as incentives, and which types of incentives work best for behavior change.
Communicating Consumer-Driven Health Care to Employees and their Families
Provides useful tips and information on how employers can communicate and educate employees and their families on consumer-driven health care plans.
