Objectives
- Send a clear signal from corporate America that recent health care cost increases have become serious problems in the U.S. today. Immediate actions must be taken to slow the rate of increase.
- Document major cost drivers and their impact on costs, quality, access to health care, employers ability to provide health benefits to all employees, and governments ability to provide health coverage to those without employer-sponsored coverage.
- Costs must take into account productivity and direct health care for the maximization of functionality of employees.
- Identify effective methods for controlling cost increases and communicating those solutions to employers, other purchasers, and consumers.
- Identify effective methods for improving patient safety and quality of health care, in collaboration with organizations whose missions are devoted to safety, quality, and performance measurement.
- Identify effective methods of improving quality and safety as means to control costs.
- Follow up with employers to track the impact of recommended solutions and their ability to reduce costs, enhance productivity and improve quality.
