Brenna Haviland
Manager, Institute on Health Care Costs & Solutions
Brenna Haviland is a Manager with the Institute on Health Care Costs & Solutions. Her areas of focus are consumer-driven health care (CDHC) and retiree health. Previously, Brenna supported research and academic initiatives for the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. Prior to USM, she worked for Healthy Maine Partnerships in promoting physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco resistance activities in schools, communities, and workplaces in southern Maine. At HMP, she led efforts to establish tobacco-free communities, created youth advocacy programs in three school districts, and assisted with workplace wellness initiatives. Before that, she served as a research assistant at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire where she collected data for diabetes research, and mentored adolescents with a chronic illness in a variety of clinical, academic, and community settings.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health Education, minor in nutrition, from the University of Maine at Farmington and Master of Science degree in Health Policy and Management from the Muskie School. Her capstone project examined standards for JCAHO accreditation, CMS certification, and state licensing for hospitals in the State of Maine. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
